Thanks to the support of the DAAD, the first edition of this workshop was organized in April 2016 by the Chair of Structural Mechanics (TUM) together with the Department of Architecture, Planning and Design (University of Sassari, Italy), the Chair of Structural Analysis and Dynamics of the RWTH, the Department of Energy, Systems, Territory and Construction Engineering of the University of Pisa and the Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering of the University of Minho. The workshop took place in March/April at the Vorhoelzer Forum in the main campus of the Technical University of Munich.
Through three days of lectures, discussions and an excursion, the students looked at seismic design matters from different points of view, from the theoretical and technical side to the functional, social and aesthetic side. It has been a successful event. 15 Students from Italy and Portugal together with 15 German Students (mainly master students, and few PhD students) participated at the event, also exchanging Ideas and opinions. 3 Italian and 2 Portuguese Lecturers together with 6 German Lectures created a comprehensive program, covering different themes of the seismic design of buildings. Beside the presentations at the main forum, a half day was dedicated to an excursion at Maurer AG, one of the most important steel construction company of Bavaria. One Italian expert together with four German experts guided the participants through the head quartiers and the factory of the company, showcasing main projects and future ideas for research collaboration with universities.
